Serums

What is a serum?

Serums are typically gel-based or liquid skincare formulations that stand out for their lightweight nature. They're designed to deliver a high concentration of active ingredients, such as Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid, directly to your skin. These potent concoctions are ideal for targeting specific skin concerns, including acne, wrinkles, and dryness, offering a focused treatment that penetrates deeply for effective results.

Difference between serums and moisturisers

It is understandable that people tend to confuse serums and moisturisers, after all, they are the products used in the last phase of the common skincare routine after cleanser and toner. (Unless of course, you are applying sunscreen ). Serums contain a high concentration of active ingredients and are designed to deliver these ingredients by penetrating your skin. Moisturisers , on the other hand, help to strengthen the surface layers of the skin and provide much-needed hydration for the face. Serums usually are also thinner and lighters whereas moisturisers are thicker.

Serums and moisturisers are pretty much two different products that tackle different issues. In fact, they are commonly used together to strengthen the skin.

Benefits of serums

Targeted Treatment

Serums are formulated to address specific concerns, whether it’s combating acne, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, or fighting signs of aging.

High Concentration of Actives

Packed with powerful ingredients, serums deliver a potent dose of nutrients and antioxidants to your skin.

Quick Absorption

Thanks to their lightweight nature, serums are easily absorbed, allowing for deeper penetration of active ingredients.

Hydration Boost

Many serums contain hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid that help to lock in moisture, leaving skin plump and hydrated.

Brightening Effects

With regular use, serums can brighten the complexion, reducing the appearance of dark spots and giving your skin a radiant glow.

Texture Improvement

Over time, serums can improve the skin’s texture, making it smoother and softer to the touch.

Enhanced Skin Health

By delivering antioxidants and other nourishing components, serums support overall skin health, helping to fortify its natural barrier against environmental stressors.

How to apply serums correctly?

Serums are usually applied twice a day, in the morning and at night as part of the daily skincare routine. Serums are applied after cleanser and toner . It should be used before moisturisers as serums are generally lighter and thinner than moisturisers. Applying moisturisers after serums also helps to lock in the moisture to your face. Similar to how you apply moisturisers, about two drops of serums are used on the face and neck with your fingertips. Gently massage it in a circular motion to ensure your skin absorbs the serums equally.
